Bookcomet Advent Calendar Day – Carolling Book Style

Day3door

Let’s Go Carolling!

Ok, so, here are some of my favourite little songs or rhymes that have come up in books. Some of these you’ll recognise from real life others are unique to the book, here goes:

“Monday’s child is fair of face
Tuesday’s child is full of grace
Wednesday’s child is full of woe
Thursday’s child has far to go
Friday’s child is loving and giving
Saturday’s child works hard for a living
But the child born on Sabeth’s day
Is bright and bonnie and good and gay”

– Enchanted by Alethea Kontis

……………………

“Demon pox, oh demon pox
Just how is it acquired?
One must go down to the bad part of town
Until one is very tired.
Demon pox, oh demon pox, I had it all along—
Not the pox, you foolish blocks,
I mean this very song—
For I was right, and you were wrong!”

– Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare

……………………

“Sixteen of your deepest fears
Sixteen times you dreamed my tears
Falling, Falling through the years

Sixteen moons, sixteen years
Sound of thunder in your ears
Sixteen miles before she nears
Sixteen seeks what sixteen fears

Sixteen moons, sixteen years
sixteen times you dreamed my fears
Sixteen will try to Bind the spears
Sixteen screams just one hears

Sixteen moons, sixteen years
The Claiming moon, the hour nears
In these pages Darkness clears
Powers bind what fire sears

Sixteeth moon, Sixteenth year
now has come the day you fear
Claim or be Claimed
Shed blood, Shed tear
Moon or Sun- destroy, revere.”

– Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

……………………

“Don’t go looking for boys in the dark
They will say pretty things then
leave you with scars.
Do go looking for boys in the park
For that is where the true gentlemen are.”

– The Luxe by Anna Godbersen

……………………

“She will fight for light, and he for dark,
Battling through the ages for loves sweet spark.
Wherever two souls adore truly, you will find them, lo,
The brave Juliet and the wicked Romeo.”

– Juliet Immortal by Stacey Jay

Quotes I love:

  • “And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.”
Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower
  • “Have you fallen in love with the wrong person yet?’
Jace said, “Unfortunately, Lady of the Haven, my one true love remains myself.”
…”At least,” she said, “you don’t have to worry about rejection, Jace Wayland.”
“Not necessarily. I turn myself down occasionally, just to keep it interesting.”
    Cassandra Clare, City of Bones
  • “If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.”
J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  • “My, aren’t we bossy today. Give a girl an army and it goes straight to her head.”
    Julie Kagawa, The Iron Queen
  • “Fine,” she said, and frowned. Monosyllabicism. An Outsider disease, and she’d been infected.”
Veronica Rossi, Under the Never Sky
  • “Will looked horrified. “What kind of monster could possibly hate chocolate?”
    Cassandra Clare, Clockwork Angel
  • “Missing, one stunningly attractive teenage boy. Answers to ‘Jace’ or ‘Hot Stuff”
Cassandra Clare, City of Lost Souls
  • “He who leaps for the sky may fall, it’s true. But he may also fly.”
    Lauren Oliver, Delirium
  • “And in her smile I see something more beautiful than the stars.”
    Beth Revis, Across the Universe
  • “Happiness is the most natural thing in the world when you have it, and the slowest, strangest, most impossible thing when you don’t. It’s like learning a foreign language: You can think about the words all you want, but you’ll never be able to speak it until you suck up your courage and say them out loud.”
    Dan Wells, Partials
  • “If you can’t know the truth, said Isolde, live the most awesome lie you can think off.”
    Dan Wells, Partials
  • “If you love someone, put their name in a circle; because hearts can be
    broken, but circles never end.”
Karen Amanda Hooper, Grasping at Eternity
