IN A RACE AGAINST TIME, HOW DO YOU KEEP THOSE YOU LOVE SAFE?
Jenny Kramer knows she isn’t normal. After all, not everybody can see the past lives of people around them. When she befriends Ben Daulton, resident new boy, the pair stumbles on an old music box with instructions for “mesmerization” and discover they may have more in common than they thought.
Like a past life.
Using the instructions in the music box, Ben and Jenny share a dream that transports them to Romanov Russia and leads them to believe they have been there together before. But they weren’t alone. Nikolai, the mysterious young man Jenny has been seeing in her own dreams was there, too. When Nikolai appears next door, Jenny is forced to acknowledge that he has traveled through time and space to find her. Doing so means he has defied the laws of time, and the Order, an ominous organization tasked with keeping people in the correct time, is determined to send him back. While Ben, Jenny and Nikolai race against the clock — and the Order — the trio discovers a link that joins them in life — and beyond death.
Am I the only one who looked at the cover and thought ballet?
That is such a me thing to get completely the wrong idea from the cover.
So if you are not so keen on Endless (not that I wasn’t) because you think like me cover-wise and don’t like books about dancers, don’t worry. It’s more arty if anything. So in other words, I was really surprised when the main character started having visions of a painting self (don’t worry again – not a spoiler).
The cover is amazing though. It reminds me of the ballet dancers from Swan Lake. It would definitely call to me if I saw it in a bookshop or something.
Unfortunately, I liked the first half of Endless better than the other. The beginning was really cool and I really took to the story when Jen and Ben were trying to find out more about what they found in the attic. I have always loved a bit of historical fiction, so my eyes lit up while reading about Jenny’s past.
At the beginning of the book, one of the first things we discover is that Jen has to wear gloves because if she touches someone, something happens to her. I don’t really understand how the powers impact on the story because they were only mentioned a couple of times near the beginning. All I can wonder is if they will come into play during a sequel.
I know that some people absolutely despise love triangles, but I quite like them. I kind of want there to be a love triangle between Ben, Jenny and Nikolai because I like Ben more than Nikolai and want him to win. Not that I think he’d stand much of a chance.
When a sequel is released, I do not doubt that I will pick it up. Like I mentioned before, I am really curious to where the story will go.
Usually, I have no problem picking whether I like flashbacks or the present better. This time, however, I really can’t pick. I loved them both!
I would recommend Endless to you if you like reading about that kind of past life kind of thing, beautiful covers and interesting stories.
A magical read that will keep you intrigued right from the start.
